Clerk & Master, Teresa W. Simerly, was appointed in January, 1999.  Teresa has been a certified legal assistant (paralegal) since 1989.  Since being appointed Clerk & Master, Teresa has earned the designation of Certified Public Administrator, providing her with a comprehensive knowledge of the inner workings of county government.  Teresa is a member of National Association of Legal Assistants; member of East Tennessee Court Clerk's Association; member of Tennessee Court Clerk's Association; member of County Official's Association of Tennessee; and serves as Secretary of the Unicoi County Records Commission.

he Office of Clerk & Master collects child support payments, collects delinquent taxes for Unicoi County and the Town of Erwin, invests funds for minors and incompetents as ordered by the Court, conducts auctions for both delinquent property taxes and court ordered sales such as partition suits or division of assets in a divorce action, files civil matters, and provides administrative aide to the Chancery Court in records and docket management, maintenance of court minutes, official communication and various other court-related duties.

Does Unicoi County Chancery Court have Probate jurisdiction?
No.  Unicoi County has a Private Act which places jurisdiction for Probate Court with the General Sessions Court, and the records are maintained in the office of the Circuit Court Clerk, Christy Howard (423-743-3541).

Can I get a copy of my divorce papers from this Court?
If you were divorced in Unicoi County, your final decree of divorce will be filed either in this Court or in Circuit Court, and you may obtain a copy upon request.
