Veteran's Memorial

Debbie was very active in soliciting contributions for the new Veteran's Memorial Park.  The Unicoi County Veteran's Memorial Park was long a dream of many locals for several years.  Acquisition of the present park property from the American Legion and the Centennial Lodge #491 Free Excepted Masons of Erwin set the wheels in motion for the dream to become a reality.

Trees that were removed from the property during site preperation were transported to a local sawmill and used to construct the park pavillion.  Walls of the pavillion now are adorned with the World War One era county veteran plaques placed in memory in the original park.  The property was graded in preperation for the concrete base needed to support the granite slabs that represent each branch of military service.

Any veteran who lived or once lived in Unicoi County was eligible to be honored.  over 5,000 names are now etched into the marble slabs.  Virttually all the citizens of Unicoi County and donors from all over America with ties to Unicoi County were part of the successful funding of the park.
